2025 Calves

The calves for the 2025 season have started arriving and will not be available until April of 2026. We breed a Galloway/Highland cross. We will not have any miniature Highland calves available.

We prefer to sell in pairs unless you already have mini cattle. You will need a minimum of one hectare (2.5 acres) of good grazing for two mini cows. This does not include cross grazing, you can find info about grazing calculations here. You will need good fencing, troughs and yards.

If you are planning to get into breeding mini cows you will need to have experience with breeding standard cattle as well as a race with a crush in case you need to call a vet.

Calves are vaccinated and drenched at weaning. We are NAIT registered and our TB status is C10.

We are a commercial beef and dairy operation, we are members of the New Zealand Farm Assurance Programme (NZFAP) and are subject to stringent audits of our property, facilities, stock handling and animal health and feed management.

Our animals have daily contact with humans and are quiet but the new owners will need to be patient and handle them daily to make them pets.

We are not taking any expressions of interest for calves at this point. Calves will be advertised online, on our Facebook page and in our Facebook group.

Pairings for 2025

This season, each of our three bulls were paired with three cows. The aim of our breeding programme is to breed fluffy, mini, polled calves with interesting colours. We are still in the very early stages of this programme and we are excited to see what our first full breeding year brings in 2025.

Boris the Miniature Galloway Bull

Boris

Boris is a chondro positive miniature White Galloway measuring 94cm at the hip. Boris is quiet and treat trained (will come for snacks) he is dominant white so all of his calves are white with coloured markings.

Boris went in with some dairy hefiers so we are expecting some feeder calves in July and August. Boris has gone in with our Highland girls so we are hoping for three mini Galloway/Highland calves. He also went in as clean up so he will have got anyone the other boys missed - he's good like that.

Mooska

Mooska is a white Highland, she was disbudded as a calf (not polled), she has had two bull calves to Boris and it's such a winning combo we couldn't resist rolling the dice with these two again. Mooska has calved and had her first heifer - polled and suspected non chondro. Pics to follow (when the rain stops).

Agatha

Agatha is a polled Highland (Hummel) she is black with stunning highlights and one of our friendliest cows. Agatha has had another well marked heifer this year. She is polled and suspected non chondro.

Belle

Belle has grown out to standard Highland size, she has excellent Highland genetics and was disbudded as a calf (she is not polled). Belle has had an absolute whopper of a first calf, a dun tipped, very fluffy bull calf. He is suspected chondro positive and will be disbudded as he is horned.

Derek

Derek is the new boy on the block (this is him before the husband decided he needed a hair cut!). He is impossibly short and we are not convinced he will have reached his ladies this year, but where there's a will there's a way!

Derek has been matched with three of our polled ladies who we are hoping will pass on their polled genes, their great colouring and their perfect personalities.

Blue

Blue is our mini Speckle Park (Speckle Park cross Dexter) and she is a dream - great colour, always in amazing condition, and popped out her first calf with no issue before coming into lots of milk.

Blue is due start of October, we would love to see a calf that has Blue's roan coat and Derek's fluff...but, Dusty let himself in with Derek's girls so we are getting a lucky dip!

Shawty

Shawty is a mini Highland cross Shorthorn. She is short and polled with a perfect roan coat. As you can tell from the belt, Dusty beat Derek to it and from a red and a dun we ended up with a gorgeous blue roan with a belt. This heifer calf is as wide as she is tall

Betty

Betty (on the left with her sister Cleo on the right) is a mini Galloway crossed with a polled (Hummel) Highland. Betty is 88cm tall and full of sass.

Betty was scanned as empty...or 28 days (or less) in calf. She was scanned again in August and she is still empty - she is having a much deserved year off!

Dusty

Dusty is a dun mini belted Galloway, here he is with his summer coat - he gets curlier in winter. Him and Boris like treats and will run toward the rattle of an ice cream container with Multinuts.

Dun is the colour that throws a range of other colours so we are hoping for some red from our black girls. Dusty went in with Briar and Blair who both have white faces - we are hoping for some panda calves (or Panlanders).

Blair

Blair is high percentage Highland (showing off some impressive Highland horns) with her Hereford heritage showing through in her white face.

Blair did a great job, popping out this chonky bull calf as a maiden. Her calf is silver with a belt and is polled. He is suspected chondro positive.

Briar

Briar had her calf slightly early but completely without drama. Briar has delivered exactly what was ordered, with a polled heifer Panlander calf.

Briar's calf has a white face and a white belt and is silver. Unsure of chondro status as she is very small but not very wide.

Cleo

Cleo had her calf, Luna, six weeks early. When she was born Luna was unable to stand and Cleo didn't have any milk.

Luna is being hand reared. She lives on the lawn and sleeps in the garage with her bestie, Rosie the lamb. Luna is seven weeks old here and still smaller than her siblings and cousins born at full term.

Some FAQs about mini calves

How much are your calves?

We don't price our calves until they arrive safe and sound, they have been chondro tested and we know if they are polled or not.

Our miniature steers start at $2,500 each. Our miniature heifers start at $3,500. We don't often sell bulls, but if you would like one please get in touch.

Our miniature Galloway/dairy cross calves are $150 each for non mini calves, $350 each for mini steers and $500 each for mini heifers. These are sold as "bottle babies" or feeder calves and are only available in July and August 2026.

Do you sell calves for hand rearing?

We have a limited number of miniature Galloway cross calves available out of our Friesian cross dairy cows. These will be available for hand rearing in July of 2026.

They are available from 7 days old, covered transport is required (absolutely no cage trailers) and we do not allow these calves to travel more than two hours from our farm near Te Awamutu in the Waikato. Interisland travel is not an option.

We are not taking expressions of interest, these calves will be advertised as they become available on our Facebook page and in our Facebook group.

What do I need for mini cattle?

Mini cattle are cute but they have the same requirements as standard cattle in terms of friends and feed. We prefer our calves to go in pairs unless you already have mini cattle.

We require our forever homes to have suitable facilities for cattle - fencing, water, yards and a race, as well as a relationship with a local vet who will assist with an animal health plan.

How much area do I need?

One hectare of good grazing is enough for two miniature cattle - this doesn't include cross grazing with other animals. You will also need a plan for feeding supplement in dry and wet seasons.

Miniature cattle eat about the same amount as standard Highlands or Galloways. We have put together some info about grazing calculations here.

Do you have a waitlist?

We do not have a waitlist. Calves are currently being born and will be available in March and April of 2026. When calves are available they will be advertised via our Facebook group there will be an expression of interest form to be completed when calves are advertised.

We are very fussy about the forever homes that our mini moos go to so we do screen potential properties rigorously. We also have specific transport requirements.

What are the transport requirements?

If using a transporter we require our calves to be transported in pairs. You can collect your calves in a stock trailer or horse float (absolutely no cage trailers).

We have trusted transporters we can recommend, or buyers can arrange their own. We have yards, a race and a loading ramp.

It is our preference that our calves are transported for no more than four hours so preference will be given to homes within four hours of Te Awamutu in the Waikato.

Do you have straws available?

Unfortunately we are no longer selling straws for our miniature bulls.

What do I need to know about breeding minis?

Breeding mini cows isn't as simple as it seems (take it from someone who thought it would be very simple!).

We have put together some tips and tricks here or you can join our Facebook group where we share lots of info.

How do I express an interest in your mini calves?

Our fluffy mini cows are much loved pets and we love their calves too. We are very fussy about the homes our calves go to. We are not currently taking any expressions of interest, please follow us on Facebook or join our Facebook Group for updates.
